Will Big Brother be watched?
Apr 16
The television industry is awaiting the findings from the Reality TV Review. The ACMA report is currently with the Communications Minister Helen Coonan, who has yet to make comment about any developments, as The Australian reports.
The ACMA report is in the minister’s office, with Senator Coonan’s spokeswoman saying she would respond “shortly”. Many in the TV industry suggest the Government must respond before the launch of Network Ten‘s Big Brother on Sunday April 22, although the spokeswoman said that date was not a consideration.
Opposition communications spokesman Stephen Conroy has called on the minister to release her findings as soon as possible, in light of Big Brother’s imminent season launch.
Industry and academic submissions to the report suggested little change to the role of the ACMA and the current Inudstry Code of Practice.
Endemol Southern Star, producers of the contentious Big Brother programme, will not comment until the Senator delivers her findings.
