Gippsland’s GV goes GOLD1242

Radio

When Gippsland’s newest radio station launches at Midday this Friday (November 30), listeners will hear the best songs of all time, coming from a station with a strong commitment to localism.

“GOLD 1242 will be a station with three key strengths,” says ACE Network Program Manager, Mark Taylor.

“Firstly,” he says, “it’s about the music.  We’re putting together a strong music-based station, playing the best songs of the last 40 years.  It’s a mix of songs and artists that listeners have told us they want to hear from across the decades.”

But GOLD 1242 is about more than just the music.

“Another key strength,” says Mr Taylor, “is our commitment to localism.  GOLD 1242 will be a Gippsland radio station, for Gippslanders.”

“Added to our hourly national news coverage will be more local Gippsland news than ever before, and a continued commitment to local and national sport.”

The third key strength is GOLD 1242’s on air team, with over 80 years of combined radio experience.

Starting the day is Jon Vertigan, who is already well known to local radio listeners.

“Jon has an immense following in Gippsland because of the fun he injects into the Breakfast show, and his engaging interaction with guests and listeners,” says Mr Taylor.

Returning to the 1242 frequency in Gippsland is the very popular Julie Strini.  Julie will again team up with Grant Johnstone, just like in the old 3TR AM days, to play GOLD 1242’s music mix during the morning.  Together with Greg Allen each afternoon, Grant and Julie will have competitions and requests to help the work day go faster.

Greg Allen is a native Gippslander with a strong affinity with the area and, like the rest of the team, is excited about the new radio choice for Gippsland.

Wendy Robinson will be the voice in the evenings and, like the whole team, is passionate about the music, and passionate about broadcasting.

Mark Taylor believes ACE has put together a strong team for GOLD 1242.  “These guys are more than just announcers,” he says.  “They are communicators with an ability to warmly connect with our radio audience.”

GOLD 1242 will also be heard online at theradio.com.au.
